After years of research and practice by Qi Kun's research team,subcritical extraction technology has been gradually applied in the fields of plant oils,essential oils,plant pigments,Chinese herbal medicine and so on.
Propane,butane,dimethyl ether and tetrafluoroethane are the most commonly used subcritical extraction solvents.However,conventional extraction solvents,such as ethanol,hexane and water,are extracted at liquid temperature lower than their boiling point.The heating process of removing solvent from the extract not only causes the thermal damage of the extract,but also causes the loss of volatile essential oil components.Conventional extraction process is a physical method of high temperature and atmospheric pressure.On the other hand,supercritical CO2 extraction is a physical method of low temperature,ultra-high pressure and low efficiency,sometimes accompanied by the chemical action of carbonic acid,which is taboo for extraction.
More than 200 kinds of raw materials have been produced through small scale test,pilot scale test,production and mass production,such as oil extraction of camellia seed,peony seed,walnut,grape seed,xanthoceras,flaxseed,yuanbaomaple seed,pine nut,etc.,and volatile essential oil extraction of rose,aloes,Chinese prickly ash,ginger,etc.
